Our Memorial Day Weekend was very low key. We canceled going on the boating trip to Lake Mead and stay home to get some things accomplished. We went and visited Grandpa Laird's gravesite in Odgen. Nate's mom wrote this shortly after Grandpa Al past way.
"Right after Halloween your Grandpa Laird got real sick. He had been fighting cancer for almost a year and was very ill in the hospital. We traveled all night for Utah and went straight to the hospital. Grandpa was so glad to see you and hold your hand. He said how he loved you and that you were make your parents real proud one day. He died on November 7th 1983. You had mom write some of your feelings in your journal after your Grandpa died. You wanted to know why they cut off Grandpa's legs when you saw him in his casket. You told me the things you liked most about your Grandpa were the piggy back rides and the boxing lessons. It has made me so happy to see how you never forget about your Grandpa. You are the only grandchild who will remember him and it makes your memories of Grandpa very special. Never forget how proud of you he was and how much he loved you"
This picture was taken Christmas of Nate (almost 2) and Grandpa Al during Christmas in 1980.
We had a great visit with Grandma Laird while we were in Odgen. Maddy was not allowed to play in Grandma's curtains so we tried our best, but as you can see it was a difficult job.

is it me, or can you never play in any grandma's curtains? My grandma is the same way...don't even touch. you will get your oily hands all over them!
Despite the curtains, I bet Grandma loved having you all there. Maddy is such a cutie!
Just catching up on all your posts! You guys certainly keep very BUSY! How fun that you have family close to visit, and I love all the places you take Maddy! Glad she's feeling better!
What a sweet picture of Maddy and Great-Grandma Laird. That will be such a priceless picture in the future.
So are you up for spinning this week? Let me know what nights will work for you.
I think that is so neat that his mom wrote that. It almost made me cry! Anyway, I remember doing that with the curtains at my grandmas too(which were also off limits). I don't know what it is but they are fun to play in!
Do you think if the curtains weren't off limits then kids wouldn't want to play in them? haha... love the post. What a great way to spend Memorial Day. That's a great memento for Nate to have of his grandpa.
I am glad that I will be close enough to get a lunch date with you every once in awhile. Hopefully we will be able to have a roomie get together again. Glad your little one is better.
You are funny! So, my sister is going out of town next week and she asked me to drive her kids down to Cedar to stay at my parents. I am leaving Tuesday and won't be back until Saturday. I don't know if you will feel up to doing anything on Monday, so we might have to wait until I get back. Let me know.
