The Fall

A couple of weeks ago I was cooking dinner for my family. Halle was in her Bumbo on the counter with the tray across and I will busy filling muffin tins with cornbread. Halle arched her back and pushed back on her feet and flipped backward off the counter. It happened so fast, but then in slow motion...hard to explain the feeling.  I couldn't reach out and grab her. She landed on the side of her head. She was screaming and I pulled her out as fast as I could. Nate ran in and was able to calm her down, but then she began to pass out. We couldn't keep her awake. It was really scary and so Nate suggested that we call the paramedics to have them come check her out. After about ten minutes she was able to keep her eyes open better and just seemed really out of it and completely dazed. Paramedics checked her out and said that they didn't see any immediate risk and that we could take her to hospital on our own and just sit by her. So away we went up to Primary Children's Hospital to make sure there wasn't bleeding or fractures  My dear friend Chelsey kept our other kids...don't know what I'd do without her. By the time we made the 45 minute drive up there, she seemed normal. Smiling, talking, blowing bubbles, but they wanted to watch her for the next couple of hours. Giving her CT scans would expose her to radiation. So if she showed no other alarming symptoms we would forgo that route. Just three hours later we where sent home and she seems normal other than probably suffering from a major headache. Felt so blessed whereas she landed on the side of her head which is a softer part of her skull. So listen to me when I say...NEVER put a bumbo on the counter, no matter what age. It doesn't always have a happy ending.

Nate looked over at my badge on my shirt and asked who's that a picture of. Of course it was me, but he thought it was someone else.  They checked our ID's and scanned the image and created badges.  It didn't look like either of us, but I had to ask Nate. Who is that a picture of on your badge?
