During the summer we were worried about Delaney speech and vocabulary. We got her tested for Kids on the Move (Early Childhood Program) and she qualified. We had lots of help all summer long from many therapist including speech, occupational and behavior. It was an emotional roller coaster for our family. Admitting that there could be something possibly wrong with your child is HARD. What we believe Laney to have is Sensory Processing Disorder. She needs more sensory input the most people. Which means, more chewing, jumping, running, deep pressure, over stuffing her mouth with foods, moving from thing to thing very quickly. She also is always seeking more spicy, sweet and sour foods. He pain tolerance is super high and honestly this list could go on. I think I had a busy child that I didn't know what to do with, but I found out I had a child with needs that I needed to help her meet! Once she turned three she received services through the school district. Laney now goes to preschool twice a week. We were so blessed with an amazing teacher, classroom aids, and speech therapists. It's truly been an answer to our prayers. Her vocabulary has increased and we are amazed at the words that are now coming out of her mouth. We are so happy with her progress and we are so proud of her!
The second day of school Laney rode the bus. She was not so happy about being buckled in at first. It was difficult as the bus pulled away and we could still hear our little girl screaming. It felt like the longest four hours until her return...wondering how she did. When I heard the bus pull up on her arrival home from school I quickly ran to the door and made my way down the driveway where I saw a huge smile on her face as she made her way down the stairs. Now she loves the bus so much! Everyday she runs to it and waves goodbye without any hesitation.
